Last month I attended the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) convention in Las Vegas. I am always so impressed with the line- up of speakers and vendors. Again there was a well rounded group such as; designers from HGTV, Realtors, Motivational speakers, Physiologist (staging is a behavior science after all), Educators, landscapers, furniture designers, and our keynote-broker extraordinaire from the Shark Tank, Barbara Corcoran. Understandably, I leave these conferences inspired and overflowing with ideas that I can’t wait to get home and implement. I am also always impressed with how generous my fellow stagers are!
I think all home stagers have a few things in common: We love home design, we are people pleasers, and our greatest pleasure comes from helping others succeed. How else could you explain “competitors” from all over coming together and sharing their ideas, cautionary stories, and successful strategies? We fiercely believe in what we do and have one common goal – to education and share the overwhelming benefits of staging.
I’ll be sharing more of what I learned in coming blogs but today I’ll stick to “just the facts.”
Why would anyone not stage a home?
RESA 2012 Study
RESA studied 359 homes that were staged before they went on the market. These homes, on average, received their first offer in 26 days after being professionally staged.
RESA studied 89 homes that were previously on the market not staged. These 89 homes sat on the market, on average, for 166 days before the homeowners gave up and called in a professional home stager. Those same homes were staged and received their first offer, on average, 32 days after being professionally staged. This is 81% less time on the market. Nine (9) of these homes had multiple offers.
Our 2012 study found that homes, not staged, were on the market 166 days, before the home owners decided to have them professionally staged. After staging, homes, on average, sold in 32 days. This equates to a total of 198 days.
When staged first (prior to listing), homes averaged 26 days on the market.
Our study proves it does not benefit the homeowner to list their property first to see if it will sell. When they invest in staging before listing, they sell 87% faster.
