Are you a nutty designing shopper?

If not, you should be.

Imagine you are shopping in your favorite home goods store, pushing a squeaky shopping cart down the aisle filled with a mixed but not quite matched bunch of accessories. Frustrated since nothing seems to be coming to together, you stumble on another shopper. Literally, she has accessories spread across the floor; candles, vases, platters, baskets. And you think; what a nut! Well, that nut is probably me. I have been known to carry furniture from one department to another, and I’ve asked clerks to spread multiple comforters on multiple beds and I’ve carried throw pillows all over stores. I think it’s the only way to shop. I mean how is any one going to put pieces together without putting pieces together? Yes, you can take them all home and bring half of them back but then you’ve missed that piece that would have looked great with the other piece because you didn’t see it together in the store.

For instance, recently I was shopping for a table scape design. I started filling my cart with silver and glass since that was my original intent. Then a wall hanging called to me, along with an organic accessory and my cart began to overflow with very different accessories. I found an empty aisle and started arranging. A shopper past by, probably thinking what a nut – but she was kind, and instead complimented my decorating skills. I will be helping her with a redesign in the next week or two. Others have been known to stare a little and a few have copied me, taking home exactly what I did – I think this is the ultimate compliment. Of course I’m always extra nice to that store clerk I’m driving crazy, and I always put back everything in its proper place. So if you want to maximize your shopping time, discover those arrangements you might have otherwise missed and design those great color, size, texture combinations – I recommend becoming a nutty designing shopper too!

Here is a picture of that table scape I was working on (I turned the wall hanging into a centerpiece by placing a large candle in the middle)
