From a design perspective it is important for every space to have a purpose, however if your home is for sale it is absolutely ESSENTIAL!

Buyers are paying for square footage, and certainly don’t want to spend money on wasted space. So every nook and cranny must be presented and staged in a way that shows buyers your home is the one that utilizes space efficiently and is worth every penny you are asking for it!

For those whose homes are not on the market, we can be a little more lax – but not too much people! Who out there has a junk room? Not a junk drawer, a junk room! The mysterious room with the door that is always closed, and is seldom used since is so uncomfortable in there. You pause when you walk by, feeling heavy and burdened by the thought of fixing it, and terrified a guest might accidently open that door! But there is no judgment here, only help.

Take a look at this ambitious room. What is its purpose? An office? A play room? An exercise room? Or a TV room (the TV is in the corner)?

First decide what is important. What purpose does this room need to serve?

This particular room’s main purpose was an office so the first thing we did was find a desk. With budget in mind, we found a great deal on a used desk at one my favorite resell stores in Lakeway, Furniture brokers. The L-shaped desk from pottery barn fit perfect in the room and for only $300.00! We were able to get rid of the too small desk and nightstand that was serving as the printer table (re-selling both at furniture brokers). We moved the toys to another bedroom, found space in the garage for the exercise equipment, and put a little interest on the walls with stripes. We gave the room cohesiveness by repeating patterns and colors – wrapping material around a cork board, a picture frame, a small lamp and a pencil holder. The chaise we pulled from the master bedroom and the pillow was another find at my favorite resell shop. So for a little money, a little time and a little attention to detail, our room is given purpose!
