I love Christmas, and all that it signifies but I also love it because I get to spread garland, lights and bright, twinkly decorations everywhere! I know everyone does not share in my love of decorating, or even for the holiday itself. So let me pass on a few design tips, for those that prefer a less is more approach to the season.

Decorate a minimum of three areas;

…tree, front door and fireplace mantle.  First decide which type of tree you prefer, modern, traditional or a combination of both and make your purchases from there. Although with holiday decorating you can really mix it up, but if you are keeping your decorations to a minimum I would suggestion staying true to your theme throughout. A wreath on the front door is a quick and easy decoration for a low investment of time and money, some as inexpensive as $20.00 (on sale now at Michaels) and literary takes less than five minutes to hang.  Another easy way to bring in the holidays, is with a few new holiday pillows in the living area and of course an absolute must have, is a warm throw on the couch.  Whether you plan to decorate three areas or the whole house, repetition of color is key! Stick with two to three colors, and feel free to mix patterns and textures.   If you have a mantle, it must be decorated and my next blog we’ll talk about the tricks to creating the perfect one.  We will also discuss one of my favorite designs, tablescapes!

Happy decorating!
